Look of the Day: Lace + Sheer

Last week, I spent most of my time in Sacramento with my parents. One of the many things we share in common is our love for coffee (Organo Gold to be specific). We are true caffeine fanatics. During our 'afternoon coffee break', Pops snatched my precious camera and started snapping away like paparazzi.

Here are some shots of yours truly sporting a sheer blouse with a great lace detail on the shoulders, collar, and cuff. Also complimented with Gap jeans, Dolce Vita tall boots, Michael Kors rose gold watch, plus sunnies and gold flower earrings from H&M.

Beauty Trend I'm Tempted to Try: Matte Lipstick

I remember first dabbling into makeup. At age 11, sneaking into my mom's makeup bags in the morning when she wasn't looking and snatching a tube of lip gloss. Riding shotgun in the car on the way to school, the stolen gloss burned a hole in my jacket pocket. Was it worth stealing borrowing? Absolutely! As soon as she pulled up to the school, I bolted out of her car and dashed over to the girls' bathroom to layer on the pinky sheer gloss. Oooh I thought I was bad!

Many years have passed since my borrowing days and I ventured on to lipsticks. I never strayed too far away from a super moist and glossy look that had captured my heart before my tween years. With the matte lipstick trend on the rise from the Spring 2013 runways of Michael Kors, Burberry, Missoni, Donna Karen and more, I may-- just may-- give matte lips a try.

The key for this look is for your lips to appear dry, but not chapped, crackly dry. To get it right, apply a matte lipstick in your favorite shade, to avoid cracked lip lines, apply a lip liner, and lastly, gently apply lip balm to keep your pout a tiny bit moist.

Sweater + Denim + Boots

Thanksgiving is tomorrow. Is it, really? SMH. Well, as I'm currently taking a break from baking 3 sweet potato pies, 40 cookies, and 2 trays of mac-and-cheese (shoot me now), all I keep thinking about is what I'm going to pack for my long weekend in my hometown, Sacramento, CA.

And these are the only types of pieces I feel like wearing this weekend. Nothing too frilly or high-maintenance-- just cute and casual. Sweaters, denim, and boots:

Left: Sweater: MANGO Denim: Maison Martin Margiela Necklace: Pim + Larkin Booties: Rachel Zoe Watch: Nixon
Right: Sweater: J Crew Denim: Siviglia Boots: Frye Watch: Michael Kors Earrings: Maison de Morgana

Rain Boots?

Yesterday morning I woke up to rain. Immediately I thought, "What the hell am I gonna wear (on my feet)?" Good thing, earlier this year, I purchased a pair of rain boots that don't really look like...well, rain boots. And that's what I liked most about my new, deceiving rain shoes. Not to my surprise, more styles of rain boots, sneakers and shoes are on the shelves and making appearances online: heels, wedges, rubber bows, mixed textiles, buckles, studs, laces and more. Now don't get me wrong, I adore the classic shiny, tall, rain boot style...I just like the new kids on the blockmore!

Here are the rain 'sneakers' I bought earlier this year:

Casual Night Out

Every once in a while I tend go out and about and be social. I've been getting better I promise! Yesterday, my friend and I attended Oakland's monthly art murmur called, First Fridays. It was a blast to say the least with lots and lots of art, sculptures, dance performances, live music, food trucks for blocks, vendors of all sorts, and of course, a lovely beer garden :)

Here's yesterday's super casual look of the evening:

Xiomara

Magenta cropped khakis (Gap), bow print tank, grey sweater, black scarf, python flats (all from H&M) and black handbag (Michael Kors - Hamilton). It's funny, after listing all the items in this look, I realize that my handbag was more expensive than my entire outfit?! Handbag: $298 vs. Outfit: $110. Funny.
