Mid-week Motivation: Stop Comparing Yourself

Yes, I hate it when I do it that to myself. It's so annoying, utterly counter productive and just really makes me feel poorly about myself. As I change gears and position my focus elsewhere from my sad and pitiful feelings, I came across an awesome blog post on one of my favorite sites, Pick The Brain. I'm really digging this particular point it makes:

"1) Your own situation at hand
Are you constantly wondering, “Dang, I wish I was at the bar now” or “I sure wish I was watching the game now”?
Wish all you like, but what you’re actually doing is comparing your situation at hand with an unreachable state.
Continue with this comparison, and you’re just going to increase your boredom or even make you dread what you’re doing.
It simply cannot be helped if you stuck at work or well, just doing something else!
Think about it: If you’re washing the dishes, you’d definitely, without a doubt want to be somewhere else (unless you really love washing dishes).
Is there a point thinking about it? Not really.
Be present at your moment instead. Quiet your mind. Eliminate distractions. Get the work done and be on your way!"

Mid-Week Motivation

Start your day off thinking happy thoughts right when you get out of bed. The slightest shift in your morning mood can have an amazing impact on the rest of your day and it all begins on what's goin' on upstairs in your head. Try it— you'll probably have an amazing day (if you allow yourself to).

Monday Motivation: Nothing is Impossible

Impossible. I just can't stand that word. Why? Because it's not true. Nothing in the world is impossible. Heck, don't take my word for it, just look to the greats of the world both alive and dead. They went against all odds despite what the beliefs of naysayers. We only believe something is impossible is because we have no faith that it can happen. But what happens when a person does believe that the impossible is possible? It gets done!

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I were watching a special on will.i.am and throughout the show, he kept reiterating that everyone told him 'no'. Record labels didn't want to sign him, no one believed his music would be a success, and no one believed that he would make it in life. His response? When people told him "no", he interpreted it as "know", where he was reminded to know that he will be a success one way or another. Look where he is now-- on top. Wouldn't it have been easy for a kid from the projects living on welfare to say his dreams were impossible? The difference is that he didn't believe it was impossible and he kept pushing.

Happy Monday!

Monday Motivation: Live In The Moment

Here are some quotes from some of the greats to help us stay present, in the moment, and enjoy life at this very second:

“Be present in all things and thankful for all things.”
― Maya Angelou

“Happiness, not in another place but this place...not for another hour, but this hour.”
― Walt Whitman

“Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of.”
― Benjamin Franklin

Monday Motivation: Don't Worry, Be Happy

With a lot of things on my plate this coming year, my to-do list is growing and growing by the minute. But that's totally OK. I'm down with rolling up my sleeves and getting to knee-deep in work because staying busy keeps pushing forward. This also means I've got to stay focused and upbeat. No room in my head nor time for worrying about what-if situations that aren't in my favor. Why worry about something that hasn't even happend yet? Ever heard the quote, "Thoughts become things." (Bob Proctor) Or how about this one, "Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions." (Albert Einstein) Scary to think worries actually help create what may become reality. Good thing motivational sites like The Daily Motivator by Ralph Marston help me keep things in perspective. I'm loving this piece he wrote: 'Don't Worry'.

Happy Monday y'all!

Monday Motivation: Live in the Present Moment

One of the many quotes I have posted around my home is, "Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." (Buddah) I mounted this quote in particular because, like many, I tend to dwell in the past and worry about my future. Sometimes my mind gets filled with phrases like 'what if this happens', 'I should have done that' and 'I wish blank happened'. Feelings of anxiety, doubt and sadness shortly follow these negative thoughts. This is why I have that quote posted: to remember to be grateful for what I have at this present moment, to acknowledge that the past is done and over with and to be excited for the blessings that the future holds. By redirecting my thoughts, I put my mind at ease and recognize all the blessings in my life. For more helpful tips, check out a great site I stumbled upon here.

Happy Monday!

Motivation Monday: Your Thoughts Are Everything

Be mindful of your thoughts and what you tell yourself. You can lift your spirits up and down with the simplest action: thinking. Tell yourself that you're amazing, you'll feel great and expect great things. Tell yourself that you suck and are pathetic, you'll feel terrible and what's worse is that you've attracted the worst with your thoughts and you'll believe them-- whether they're right or wrong. Think about it (positively of course).
